Welcome to Year 5!

This year, the teachers in Year 5 are Miss Leach (Y5L) and Mrs Potts (Y5P).

Miss Scott, Miss Humphries and Miss Young will also be supporting learning in Year 5. Mrs Hardy (our Upper Years phase leader) will be teaching in Y5P on a Wednesday. 

All members of the Year 5 team are contactable via Dojo messenger. Please get in touch should you have any questions or comments and we will be happy to help in any way we can. 

We are looking forward to a successful year with lots of exciting topics and learning experiences for the children in Year 5 to enjoy. Particular favourites are Earth and Space, Ancient Greece, The Victorians including a fun trip to the Silk Museum,  Recorders, Pedalos around the boating lake and much more. We love supporting the children to develop their skills and discover new passions and opportunities throughout the year.


Homework:

This will be set on a weekly basis. 

Homework in Year 5 is completed online. Children will be set homework to be completed every Friday:

Reading Plus – Children will need to complete their weekly target on Reading Plus each week.

LBQ –  Children will need to complete 2 independent study LBQs (Learning by Questions) that will be based on learning they are doing in class.

Spelling Shed – Children will need to complete 5 games on Spelling Shed ready for their weekly Spelling Test on Friday. Paper copies of their weekly spellings are also available.


Things to Remember:

  • Please ensure your child has the correct uniform including for P.E. Examples of appropriate PE kit are available to see on Class Dojo.
  • Homework Club is on Wednesday 3:30-4:00pm. Dance Club is on Tuesday 3:30-4:00pm.
  • P.E. is on a Friday every week. Children need to arrive in their PE kits on these days.
  • Doors open from 8.30 for free breakfast club – please make sure your child gets to school on time and attends every day. 
  • Children in Year 5 are welcome to bring a water bottle to school but please ensure it is labelled.
